Ray-Ran Ohaus Explorer Weighing Balance

The Ray-Ran Ohaus Explorer gives regulated and high-throughput laboratories audit-ready weighing with a 7-inch touchscreen, four-level user management, and up to 3,000 on-balance sample libraries - across semi-micro to 65 kg high-capacity precision, on both Explorer Plus (EXP) and Explorer (EXR) tiers.

Description

Ray-Ran Ohaus Explorer gives regulated laboratories audit-ready weighing without switching between vendors, terminals, or software conventions – one 7-inch touchscreen platform covers 0.01 mg semi-micro through 65 kg high-capacity, and the four-level user management, 100,000-entry system log, and NTP time synchronization keep the data defensible during pharmaceutical inspection.

Configurations

Semi-micro: 0.01 mg readability with 82 g through 220 g capacities. Zinc alloy aero weighing pan on 80 x 80 mm platform. Anti-static glass draftshield (EXR manual; EXP enhanced anti-pinch automatic on Plus tier).

Analytical: 0.1 mg readability with capacities up to 320 g. SST 316 weighing pan on 90 x 90 mm platform.

Standard precision: 1 mg through 0.1 g readability with capacities up to 12.2 kg. SST 316 weighing pan on 130 x 130 mm (1 mg models) or 201 x 178 mm (0.01 g and 0.1 g models) platform.

High-capacity precision (EXP only): 0.1 g readability with capacities from 24 kg through 65 kg. SST 304 weighing pan on 377 x 311 mm platform. IP54-rated base for production-adjacent environments. Model numbers carry the -GB regional suffix in the EN-GBP pricelist.

Interface and applications

Every Explorer carries a 7-inch full-color capacitive touchscreen and the Ohaus digital high-speed load cell. Four-level user management with password protection, a 100,000-entry internal system log, and NTP time synchronization support data traceability for regulated workflows. Applications on-instrument include density determination, formulation, pipette adjustment, statistical quality control (SQC), fill weight variation, and flow rate control (SQC and Pipette Adjustment are not included on high-capacity models). RS-232, USB, and Ethernet interfaces are standard on EXP; Ethernet is standard on EXR too. Optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth via the LM842 dongle. Two touchless sensors let operators tare or print without touching the balance.

Product lines: Explorer Plus (EXP) and Explorer (EXR)

Two product lines within the Explorer family share the same touchscreen and load cell but differ on automation and sample capacity:

Explorer Plus (EXP): premium tier with motorized leveling, enhanced anti-pinch automatic draftshield doors (on semi-micro, analytical, and 1 mg precision models), built-in ionizer (on the same models), modular design with detachable terminal, sample spotlight and status lights, and up to 3,000 on-balance application sample libraries. Fingerprint scanner (FIN-100A) available as an accessory. Applications include SQC, pipette adjustment, fill weight variation, and flow rate control (except on high-capacity).

Explorer (EXR): base tier with the same 7-inch capacitive touchscreen and Ohaus digital high-speed load cell as EXP, but without the Plus-tier automation. Metal housing rather than modular. Up to 1,000 application sample libraries. Ethernet interface included as standard. Available in semi-micro, analytical, and standard precision (no EXR high-capacity variant in the current EN-GBP pricelist). EC type-approved (M) variants available across every EXR configuration.

Why it matters

Audit-ready weighing for regulated laboratories: four-level user management, 100,000-entry system log, NTP time synchronization, and password protection keep weighing data defensible during pharmaceutical inspection and reduce the compliance overhead in regulated QC.

Semi-micro to 65 kg on one platform family: standardize on one balance family across R&D, QC, and pilot-plant workflows without switching between vendors, terminals, or operator training programs.

Automation that cuts operator error and downtime: AutoCal internal calibration corrects for temperature drift, enhanced anti-pinch draftshield doors remove one source of operator error on the Plus tier, and the IP54-rated base on high-capacity models suits use in production-adjacent environments where dust and splash would otherwise disqualify a laboratory balance.

What happens after you inquire

A balance specialist will confirm your application, configuration (semi-micro, analytical, standard precision, or high-capacity), product line (EXP for the Plus-tier automation, or EXR at a lower price point), and any regulatory requirements (EC type-approved, pharmaceutical data traceability). We will send full specification sheets and IP SKU references for the exact model configuration – including the -GB regional suffix on high-capacity models – so purchasing can move forward for internal sign-off, along with lead time, installation, and calibration options.

Features & Benefits

  • 7-inch full-color capacitive touchscreen: same interface across every Explorer configuration – one training program covers R&D, QC, and pilot plant.
  • Four-level user management with password protection: audit trails and role-based access for regulated pharmaceutical, plastics, and coatings QC.
  • 100,000-entry internal system log with NTP time synchronization: audit-ready records without an external LIMS in the hot loop.
  • Motorized leveling (EXP only): reduces setup time when the balance moves between bays or floors, and removes manual leveling as a source of measurement drift.
  • Enhanced anti-pinch automatic draftshield doors (EXP semi-micro, analytical, 1 mg precision): removes one source of operator variation on high-readability weighing without pinch-injury risk.
  • Built-in ionizer (EXP semi-micro, analytical, 1 mg precision): eliminates static effects on low-mass powder or film samples that would otherwise disturb the reading.
  • Up to 3,000 application sample libraries (EXP), 1,000 (EXR): operators recall repeat weighings from the balance without re-entering parameters.
  • IP54-rated base on high-capacity precision (EXP): use in production-adjacent environments where a lab-only balance would not survive.

FAQs

  • Both product lines share the same 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, the same Ohaus digital high-speed load cell, and the same weighing performance envelope. Explorer Plus (EXP) adds motorized leveling, enhanced automatic anti-pinch draftshield doors (on semi-micro, analytical, and 1 mg precision models), a built-in ionizer on the same models, a modular design with detachable terminal, and 3,000 application sample libraries. Explorer (EXR) carries a manual draftshield, no ionizer, and 1,000 application sample libraries. Choose EXP for regulated or high-throughput workflows; choose EXR for laboratories that want Explorer-grade weighing at a lower price point without the full Plus feature set.

  • Every Explorer model – both EXP and EXR – includes four-level user management, password protection, a 100,000-entry internal system log, and NTP time synchronization to support data traceability. Ohaus positions the range for use in regulated pharmaceutical laboratories, and the Explorer Plus (EXP) tier extends this with up to 3,000 on-balance application sample libraries, which reduces reliance on external logging for repeatable multi-sample procedures. Product team can confirm the exact regulatory framing for your application on request.

  • Four configurations. Semi-micro (0.01 mg readability, 82 g through 220 g). Analytical (0.1 mg readability, 120 g through 320 g). Standard precision (1 mg through 0.1 g readability, 220 g through 12.2 kg). High-capacity precision (0.1 g readability, 24 kg through 65 kg – EXP only, with SST 304 pan on a 377 x 311 mm platform and IP54-rated base). High-capacity models carry the -GB regional suffix in the EN-GBP pricelist.

  • Ohaus manufactures the Explorer series under ISO 9001:2015. EC type-approved (M) variants meet the Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Directive (2014/31/EU) for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications. OIML calibration weight classes (E2 on semi-micro and analytical, F1 or F2 on precision) are stated per model in the full spec sheet.

  • Explorer sits at the top of the Ohaus laboratory balance range. Compared with Adventurer (mid-tier), Explorer adds a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen (vs 4.3-inch), motorized leveling and auto-doors on the Plus tier, built-in ionizer, up to 3000 sample libraries (vs Adventurer’s application set), pharmaceutical data-traceability features, and the high-capacity 65 kg option with an IP54-rated base. Compared with Pioneer (entry) and PR (basic entry), Explorer adds the touchscreen, application count, and regulatory feature set. Choose Explorer for regulated or high-throughput laboratories where audit trails, on-balance libraries, and Plus-tier automation matter.
