The Ray-Ran Ohaus Pioneer gives laboratories, industrial sites, and educational teams routine weighing on a clear LCD interface with second-line guidance, GLP/GMP-compliant data output, and EC type-approved variants - across semi-micro to 12 kg high-capacity, at the entry price point of the Ohaus laboratory range.
Ray-Ran Ohaus Pioneer gives laboratories and industrial sites the fundamentals of routine weighing – clear readout, GLP/GMP data output, second-line guidance, and EC type-approved variants – without paying for touchscreen automation you would not use every day.
Semi-micro: 0.01 mg readability with 82 g and 220 g capacities. Stainless steel pan on Ø 80 mm platform. Glass draftshield.
Analytical: 0.1 mg readability with capacities up to 220 g. Stainless steel pan on Ø 90 mm platform.
Precision: 1 mg through 0.1 g readability with capacities up to 12 kg on the high-capacity model. Stainless steel pan across platform sizes from Ø 120 mm (1 mg models with glass draftshield) through Ø 180 mm and 193 x 248 mm (12 kg high-capacity PX12001 series).
Every Pioneer carries a backlit LCD with a second-line dot-matrix display for operator guidance, RS-232 and USB device interfaces with GLP/GMP-compliant data output and a real-time clock, and support for up to four operating languages. Applications on-instrument include basic weighing, parts counting, percent weighing, animal weighing, density determination, and formulation. A static removal bar helps stabilize readings for low-mass samples that would otherwise be affected by static, and up to two touchless sensors let operators tare or print without touching the balance.
Three sub-variants let you match the balance to the job:
Standard PX: includes Internal Adjustment (AutoCal on semi-micro models). The balance calibrates itself when it detects temperature drift, reducing manual calibration cycles and the risk of an out-of-spec reading between them.
PX/M (EC Type Approved): adds EC type approval on top of the standard specification for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications. Verification interval (e) stated in the full spec sheet.
PX/E (Economy): removes Internal Adjustment to hit a lower price point where manual span calibration is acceptable. Same LCD interface and application set. Available on analytical and precision only (no /E semi-micro variant).
Compliant weighing at the entry price point: GLP/GMP-compliant data output with a real-time clock, plus EC type-approved (/M) variants for legal-for-trade or prescribed applications – available at Pioneer’s entry-tier price.
One family across routine QC and teaching labs: same LCD platform and application set from 0.01 mg semi-micro through 12 kg high-capacity – one training program for R&D, production QC, and educational settings.
Three price points, one application set: Standard for routine weighing; /M for legal-for-trade; /E where cost is the driver and manual span calibration is acceptable.
30 models across three configurations. See the downloadable spec sheet for full detail.

A balance specialist will confirm your application, configuration, sub-variant (standard, /M, or /E), and IP SKU reference. If you need touchscreen operation, up to 3,000 sample libraries, or pharmaceutical audit-trail features, we will map your workflow to the Adventurer or Explorer range before you commit to Pioneer.
Every Ray-Ran Ohaus Pioneer is supplied with a 2-year warranty from the date of installation. Industrial Physics offers global installation, on-site or laboratory calibration, preventative maintenance contracts, and spare parts for the Pioneer range. Standard PX models include Internal Adjustment (Ohaus’s calibration system on Pioneer). PX/M variants add EC type approval on top of the standard specification, for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications. PX/E (Economy) variants remove Internal Adjustment to hit a lower price point – manual span calibration is used instead. All three sub-variants share the same backlit LCD display, applications, and connectivity. Semi-micro Pioneer PX has standard and /M variants only (no /E).
The Pioneer PX series covers three configurations. Semi-micro (0.01 mg readability, 82 g and 220 g capacities). Analytical (0.1 mg readability, 120 g and 220 g). Precision (1 mg through 0.1 g readability, 320 g through 12 kg on the high-capacity PX12001 series with 193 mm x 248 mm platform).
Yes. Every Pioneer PX includes RS-232 and USB device interfaces with GLP/GMP-compliant data output and a real-time clock. For pharmaceutical audit-trail workflows (four-level user management, 100,000-entry system log, NTP time synchronization), the Explorer tier is a better fit.
Ohaus manufactures the Pioneer series under ISO 9001:2015. EC type-approved (/M) variants meet the Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Directive (2014/31/EU) for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications. OIML calibration weight classes (E2 on semi-micro and analytical, F1 on precision) are stated per model in the full spec sheet.
Pioneer sits at the entry tier of the Ohaus laboratory balance range. Compared with Explorer (premium), Pioneer uses an LCD with second-line guidance (Explorer has 7-inch capacitive touchscreen), no motorized leveling, no auto-doors, no ionizer, and 4 operating languages (Explorer supports up to 9). Compared with Adventurer (mid-tier), Pioneer uses an LCD (Adventurer has 4.3-inch touchscreen). Compared with PR (basic entry), Pioneer adds second-line guidance and up to 4 languages. Choose Pioneer where routine weighing at the entry price point is the driver and the /M variant covers your legal-for-trade needs.
