Ray-Ran Ohaus PR Weighing Balance

The Ray-Ran Ohaus PR gives laboratories, educational sites, and cost-sensitive QC teams the fundamentals of routine analytical and precision weighing - 0.1 mg to 0.1 g readability, EC type-approved (/M) variants for legal-for-trade work, and Economy (/E) sub-variants at Ohaus's lowest laboratory price point.

Description

Ray-Ran Ohaus PR gives cost-sensitive laboratories, educational sites, and basic industrial weighing points the fundamentals of Ohaus mechanics and calibration at the lowest laboratory price point in the range – without the touchscreen, second-line guidance, or advanced application modes of the tiers above.

Configurations

There is no PR semi-micro configuration – for 0.01 mg weighing, step up to Pioneer.

PR Analytical: 0.1 mg readability with 120 g and 220 g capacities. Stainless steel pan on Ø 90 mm platform. Glass draftshield with sliding top door.

PR Precision: 1 mg through 0.1 g readability with capacities up to 6200 g. Stainless steel pan on Ø 120 mm (1 mg models with glass draftshield) through Ø 180 mm (0.01 g and 0.1 g models).

Interface and applications

Every PR carries a backlit LCD, an RS-232 interface for basic data output, a level indicator, adjustable leveling feet, and a security bracket for anti-theft installation. Applications on-instrument are basic weighing, parts counting, and percent weighing. PR does NOT include density determination, formulation, animal weighing, GLP/GMP-formatted data output, a second-line display, or USB – those features sit on Pioneer and above.

Sub-variants: Standard, /M, and /E

Three sub-variants across each tier:

Standard PR: includes Internal Adjustment for automatic calibration correction. Same backlit LCD, RS-232, and application set as /M and /E.

PR/M (EC Type Approved): adds EC type approval on top of the standard specification for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications such as pharmacy dispensing. Verification interval (e) stated in the full spec sheet.

PR/E (Economy): removes Internal Adjustment to hit Ohaus’s lowest laboratory price point. Manual span calibration only. Same mechanics, LCD, and applications as standard PR.

Why it matters

Ohaus mechanics at the entry price point: the same pan, load cell architecture, and calibration approach used across the Ohaus range – available at PR’s basic entry price for laboratories where routine weighing is the daily job.

Legal-for-trade weighing is still available: PR/M variants carry EC Type Approval for pharmacy dispensing and prescribed applications – budget need does not force customers out of type-approved weighing.

Lowest laboratory price point (/E): PR/E strips out Internal Adjustment where manual span calibration is acceptable, without compromising the balance mechanics or application set. Ohaus’s cost floor in the laboratory range.

Model range summary

What happens after you inquire

A balance specialist will confirm your application, configuration (analytical or precision), sub-variant (standard, /M for EC Type Approval, or /E Economy), and IP SKU reference. If you need density determination, animal weighing, GLP/GMP-formatted output, USB, or a second-line display, we will map your workflow to the Pioneer, Adventurer, or Explorer tiers before you commit to PR.

Service and warranty

Every Ray-Ran Ohaus PR is supplied with a 2-year warranty from the date of installation. Industrial Physics offers global installation, on-site or laboratory calibration, preventative maintenance contracts, and spare parts for the PR range. Features & Benefits

  • Ohaus mechanics at Ohaus’s entry price point: same load cell architecture and calibration approach as higher tiers, at PR’s basic entry price.
  • Three sub-variants across each tier: standard PR for routine weighing; PR/M for legal-for-trade; PR/E for the lowest price point where manual span calibration is acceptable.
  • Backlit LCD: readable in variable laboratory lighting.
  • Level indicator and adjustable leveling feet: quick operator setup on any bench.
  • RS-232 interface (one port included): basic data output to a printer or PC.
  • EC type-approved (/M) variants: legal-for-trade weighing without stepping up to Pioneer or above.
  • Security bracket for anti-theft installation: protects the balance in shared or public-access laboratories such as teaching sites.
  • 2-year warranty and global service network: local calibration, spares, and preventative maintenance available worldwide.

FAQs

  • Standard PR models include Internal Adjustment (Ohaus’s calibration system). PR/M variants add EC type approval on top of the standard specification, for legal-for-trade and prescribed applications. PR/E (Economy) variants remove Internal Adjustment to hit Ohaus’s lowest laboratory price point – manual span calibration is used instead. All three sub-variants share the same backlit LCD display, applications, and connectivity.

  • The PR series covers two configurations. PR Analytical (0.1 mg readability, 120 g and 220 g capacities). PR Precision (1 mg through 0.1 g readability, 220 g through 6.2 kg). There is no semi-micro PR variant – for 0.01 mg readability, step up to the Pioneer, Adventurer, or Explorer tier.

  • The PR series includes an RS-232 interface (one port included) for basic data output. It does not include USB, a second-line display, or the GLP/GMP-compliant data output format available on Pioneer, Adventurer, and Explorer. For laboratories that need full GLP/GMP data output with a real-time clock, step up to the Pioneer tier or above.

  • PR supports basic weighing, parts counting, and percent weighing across all sub-variants. Density determination, formulation, animal weighing, dynamic weighing, and totalization are NOT available on PR – those applications sit on Pioneer, Adventurer, or Explorer.

  • PR is the basic entry tier at Ohaus’s lowest laboratory price point. Compared with Pioneer (entry tier above PR), PR removes the second-line guidance display, USB device interface, GLP/GMP-formatted data output, static removal bar, and application modes beyond basic weighing/parts counting/percent. Compared with Adventurer (mid-tier), PR uses an LCD (Adventurer has 4.3-inch touchscreen). Compared with Explorer (premium), PR lacks the 7-inch touchscreen and audit-trail features. Choose PR where routine analytical or precision weighing at the lowest laboratory price is the driver.
