Ray-Ran Ohaus Moisture Analyzer

The Ray-Ran Ohaus MB range gives food, plastics, coatings, pharmaceutical, and paper QC labs loss-on-drying moisture analysis on-instrument - three heat-source technologies (infrared, halogen, carbon fiber), touchscreen options for regulated workflows, and results in minutes instead of oven-drying hours.

Description

Ray-Ran Ohaus MB moisture analyzers replace overnight oven-drying with loss-on-drying (LOD) analysis in minutes – so QC in food and beverage, plastics compounding, paints and coatings, pharmaceutical, paper and pulp, and chemical laboratories runs to production speed rather than the drying oven’s schedule. 

Configurations

Entry tier (MB23, MB25): backlit LCD, manual/timed operation, LOD result output. MB23 uses infrared heating; MB25 uses halogen. Suits basic routine testing where a single method covers the workflow. 

Mid tier (MB32, MB62): LCD with second line for guidance. MB32 has a 4-inch LCD and up to 2 stored methods. MB62 has a 5-inch LCD, up to 20 stored methods, and 100 results storage. Both use carbon fiber heating. 

Touchscreen tier (MB90, MB92, MB120): 4.3-inch color touchscreens for icon-driven method navigation. MB90 uses halogen heating (2 methods, older-generation entry into touchscreen operation). MB92 uses carbon fiber (20 methods, 200 results, password protection). MB120 uses halogen with SmartGuide for method development up to 230 degrees C (100 methods, 1000 results, GLP/GMP data output). 

Interface and applications

Every MB analyzer measures loss-on-drying (LOD) as the primary application – the standard test approach for pharmaceutical LOD (USP <731>), plastics moisture (ASTM D6980), paper and board moisture (ISO 287), and food QC. Every model includes an RS-232 interface as standard. MB32 and above add USB device connectivity; MB92 adds USB host; MB120 adds RS-232 with GLP/GMP data output plus USB host and USB device for LIMS integration. All models can print to the SF40A impact printer or the Bluetooth SF40A/BT printer. Aluminum sample pans, glass fiber discs, temperature calibration kits, sample cages, and reusable sample pans are available as accessories. 

Heating technology

Three heat-source technologies cover different application windows: 

Infrared (MB23): glass-less IR element – fast warm-up and low cost. Temperature range 50 to 160 degrees C in 5-degree increments. Suits basic routine testing where result tolerance can be wider. 

Halogen (MB25, MB90, MB120): halogen bulb heat source – fast, even heat profile across a wide temperature range. MB25 covers 50 to 160 degrees C for compact routine testing. MB90 covers 40 to 200 degrees C with a 4.3-inch touchscreen and up to 100 results per method. MB120 extends to 40 to 230 degrees C in 1-degree increments for demanding applications including pharmaceutical LOD, high-melt polymers, and coatings solids content. 

Carbon fiber (MB32, MB62, MB92): Ohaus’s most recent heating technology – engineered for shorter analysis time, lower power draw, and stable results across long test cycles. Temperature range 40 to 200 degrees C. Suits high-throughput QC laboratories running the same method repeatedly across a shift. 

Why it matters

Results in minutes, not overnight: loss-on-drying on the MB range replaces the oven-drying window that would otherwise gate release testing – QC runs at production speed instead of drying schedule. 

Method traceability for regulated LOD: MB92 (20 methods, 200 results) and MB120 (100 methods, 1000 results) hold stored methods on the analyzer with password protection and GLP/GMP data output – traceable USP <731> workflows without external LIMS. 

Three heat-source technologies match the application: infrared for entry-tier routine work, halogen for wide temperature and demanding applications up to 230 degrees C, carbon fiber for high-throughput repeat testing where analysis time and power draw matter.

MB32 through MB92 share a pan handler and in-use cover accessory. MB120 has a dedicated pan holder, in-use cover, and carrying case.
