Ray-Ran Ohaus MB moisture analyzers replace overnight oven-drying with loss-on-drying (LOD) analysis in minutes – so QC in food and beverage, plastics compounding, paints and coatings, pharmaceutical, paper and pulp, and chemical laboratories runs to production speed rather than the drying oven’s schedule.
Entry tier (MB23, MB25): backlit LCD, manual/timed operation, LOD result output. MB23 uses infrared heating; MB25 uses halogen. Suits basic routine testing where a single method covers the workflow.
Mid tier (MB32, MB62): LCD with second line for guidance. MB32 has a 4-inch LCD and up to 2 stored methods. MB62 has a 5-inch LCD, up to 20 stored methods, and 100 results storage. Both use carbon fiber heating.
Touchscreen tier (MB90, MB92, MB120): 4.3-inch color touchscreens for icon-driven method navigation. MB90 uses halogen heating (2 methods, older-generation entry into touchscreen operation). MB92 uses carbon fiber (20 methods, 200 results, password protection). MB120 uses halogen with SmartGuide for method development up to 230 degrees C (100 methods, 1000 results, GLP/GMP data output).
Every MB analyzer measures loss-on-drying (LOD) as the primary application – the standard test approach for pharmaceutical LOD (USP <731>), plastics moisture (ASTM D6980), paper and board moisture (ISO 287), and food QC. Every model includes an RS-232 interface as standard. MB32 and above add USB device connectivity; MB92 adds USB host; MB120 adds RS-232 with GLP/GMP data output plus USB host and USB device for LIMS integration. All models can print to the SF40A impact printer or the Bluetooth SF40A/BT printer. Aluminum sample pans, glass fiber discs, temperature calibration kits, sample cages, and reusable sample pans are available as accessories.
Three heat-source technologies cover different application windows:
Infrared (MB23): glass-less IR element – fast warm-up and low cost. Temperature range 50 to 160 degrees C in 5-degree increments. Suits basic routine testing where result tolerance can be wider.
Halogen (MB25, MB90, MB120): halogen bulb heat source – fast, even heat profile across a wide temperature range. MB25 covers 50 to 160 degrees C for compact routine testing. MB90 covers 40 to 200 degrees C with a 4.3-inch touchscreen and up to 100 results per method. MB120 extends to 40 to 230 degrees C in 1-degree increments for demanding applications including pharmaceutical LOD, high-melt polymers, and coatings solids content.
Carbon fiber (MB32, MB62, MB92): Ohaus’s most recent heating technology – engineered for shorter analysis time, lower power draw, and stable results across long test cycles. Temperature range 40 to 200 degrees C. Suits high-throughput QC laboratories running the same method repeatedly across a shift.
Results in minutes, not overnight: loss-on-drying on the MB range replaces the oven-drying window that would otherwise gate release testing – QC runs at production speed instead of drying schedule.
Method traceability for regulated LOD: MB92 (20 methods, 200 results) and MB120 (100 methods, 1000 results) hold stored methods on the analyzer with password protection and GLP/GMP data output – traceable USP <731> workflows without external LIMS.
Three heat-source technologies match the application: infrared for entry-tier routine work, halogen for wide temperature and demanding applications up to 230 degrees C, carbon fiber for high-throughput repeat testing where analysis time and power draw matter.
Seven models across three heat-source technologies. Table below covers every model – see the downloadable spec sheet for repeatability figures, methods/results storage, and accessory options in full.

A moisture analysis specialist will confirm your application, sample type, target temperature range, throughput, and any regulatory requirements (USP <731>, ASTM, ISO). We will recommend the right MB model, send full specification sheets and IP SKU references for the exact configuration so purchasing can move forward for internal sign-off, and confirm lead time, installation, and calibration options. If your workflow also needs a laboratory balance for sample preparation, we will map the right Ray-Ran Ohaus balance (Explorer, Adventurer, Pioneer, or PR) to your process at the same time.
Every Ray-Ran Ohaus MB moisture analyzer is supplied with a 2-year warranty from the date of installation. Industrial Physics offers global installation, on-site or laboratory calibration (including temperature calibration using the temperature calibration kit accessory), preventative maintenance contracts, and spare parts for the MB range. Choose by heat source, display, and method-storage requirements. MB23 (infrared) and MB25 (halogen) suit basic routine testing with LCD displays and single-method operation. MB32 (4-inch LCD) and MB62 (5-inch LCD) add stored methods, multiple drying profiles, and status indication – carbon fiber heating for shorter analysis time. MB90 (halogen, 4.3-inch touchscreen, up to 2 methods with 100 results per method) is the touchscreen entry point at halogen speed. MB92 (4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, carbon fiber, 20 methods / 200 results) and MB120 (4.3-inch TFT touchscreen with SmartGuide, halogen heating to 230 degrees C, 100 methods / 1000 results with GLP/GMP data output) cover regulated multi-method workflows.
Infrared uses a glass-less IR element – fast warm-up, low cost, straightforward routine testing. Halogen uses a halogen bulb heat source – fast, even heat across a wide temperature range, and used on the compact MB25, the mid-range MB90 (4.3-inch touchscreen), and the premium MB120 (up to 230 degrees C with SmartGuide). Carbon fiber is Ohaus’s most recent heating technology – engineered for shorter analysis time, lower power draw, and stable results across long test cycles, and used on the MB32, MB62, and MB92.
The MB range is used across pharmaceutical laboratories for USP 731 Loss on Drying methods. The MB120 extends to 230 degrees C in 1-degree increments and supports 100 stored methods and 1000 stored results, which suits regulated LOD workflows that require method traceability. The MB92 supports 20 stored methods and 200 results with password protection. Product team can advise on the right model for a specific compendial method – contact us for a review before you order.
Every MB model includes an RS-232 interface as standard. MB32 and above add USB device connectivity. MB92 adds USB host. MB120 adds RS-232 with GLP/GMP data output, USB Host, and USB Device for LIMS integration. All models support printing to the SF40A impact printer (accessory) or the Bluetooth SF40A/BT printer where wireless output is preferred.
As standard: analyzer base, sample pan handler, in-use cover, and power cord (from MB32 upwards; MB23 and MB25 run on mains). Accessories common to all MB models: temperature calibration kit, aluminum sample pans (50 per pack), glass fiber discs (200 per pack), sample cage, reusable sample pans (14 mm and 7 mm sizes), SF40A impact printer, and Bluetooth impact printer SF40A/BT. MB32 through MB92 share a pan handler and in-use cover accessory. MB120 has a dedicated pan holder, in-use cover, and carrying case.
