Ergonomic and easy to use - with sophisticated touch screen electronics - the MFR300 melt flow indexer is packed with features to verify and validate sample materials quickly and efficiently.
Brought to you by Ray-Ran, our specialist plastics testing brand, the MFR300 is our most advanced model of melt flow indexer. It’s ideal for any quality control, quality assurance, or research melt flow testing application. Industries including plastics manufacturing, packaging, automotive, aerospace, and medical device production rely on melt flow testing to ensure material consistency, processability, and regulatory compliance, making the MFR300 a trusted solution for mission-critical applications.
Ray-Ran has manufactured melt flow indexers since the late 1970s and the brand has long been established as a globally trusted leader in this market.
The MFR300 melt flow indexer can accurately determine results for a wide range of tests from MFR and MVR through to density at test temperature, shear stress, shear rate, viscosity and IV. This enables manufacturers to understand how a material will perform in real-world moulding and extrusion conditions, helping to reduce defects, optimize formulations, and speed up product development cycles.
The Ray-Ran MFR300 melt flow indexer uses an optical rotary encoder which delivers accuracy when you need it for performing tests to methods B & C. It also features an auto cut device which gives reliable and repeatable sample cut data for method A testing, method B testing (if required), and density at test temperature. This means your team can consistently capture high-integrity data, improving traceability and supporting confident quality decisions.
Using the latest on-board microprocessor technology, the Ray-Ran MFR300 is the most accurate and easy to use melt flow indexer available. The intuitive interface ensures fast training and minimizes the risk of operator error, even in busy production environments.
The MFR300 comes Wi-Fi enabled for easy wireless results transfer the latest edition of Ray-Ran`s Techni-Test software platform which is supplied as standard.
Techni-Test allows graphical and tabular results to be presented. Reports can be printed or saved and .CSV files can be exported and opened in Microsoft Excel. Previous saved tests can be recalled into the software for later analysis. This helps users analyze trends, identify issues faster, and share results easily with internal teams or regulatory bodies.
Also fitted as standard on the MFR300 are USB and Ethernet cable ports for results capture as well as a port for direct download to a USB flash drive.
The crystal clear 4.3” touchscreen display provides simple icon driven, on-screen instructions. This minimizes user error and gives you easy access to test selections for methods A, B, C, D and the density at test temperature.
The MFR300 melt flow indexer comes with standard accessories, including:
If you are testing corrosive materials such as PVCs or fluoropolymers, Hastelloy components can be supplied and fitted easily – reducing downtime and overall cost.
The innovative dual zone heating ensures that the temperature stability of the cylinder complies with international test standards ISO 1133, ASTM D1238 and more.
With power management and protecting the environment in mind this melt flow indexer has an ‘eco’ mode which powers the machine down to a user defined power percentage when standing idle. This energy-saving mode helps reduce operational costs and supports your company’s sustainability goals.
An important feature of the MFR300 is the ability to take multiple datapoint readings during the test procedure, also known as ‘multi slicing’. This melt flow testing feature collects a user defined number of data points (slices) during the extrusion process which are recorded against the predefined piston travel test distance.
The multi slice feature enables the test to be conducted without the need to take a physical cut of the sample and means any erroneous data points occurring (as a result of entrapped air for example), can be identified and removed from the data set within Techni-Test with the overall test result being recalculated automatically. This improves test speed and accuracy while giving users greater confidence in every result.
Simple parameters such as usernames, material reference, and batch numbers are stored in lists for future recall and results presentation.
Our clever melt flow indexer also stores testing parameters including test temperature, test load, piston travel, preheat time, and material density at test temperature. While melt flow index ‘high’ and ‘low’ limits can also be set and stored which clearly show if the material under test is a pass or fail. Storing test parameters and limits reduces setup time and ensures consistency across batches and operators.
You can rely on the MFR300 melt flow indexer to give you highly accurate results to the most stringent of international standards, including:
The MFR300 comes pre-programmed with test procedures for these standards that include Methods A, B, C, and D at two weight levels for flow rate ratio (FFR) testing.
Across the IP portfolio we make a wide range of melt flow index testers. Within this series you should also take a look at both the MFR100 and MFR200 models.
Also made by Ray-Ran, our customers have been equally happy with the Ray-Ran Test Sample Injection Moulding Apparatus, a unique, low-cost small plastic injection molding machine.
Over the decades we’ve learnt a thing or two about melt flow testing. We like to share this knowledge where we can face to face and across this website.
For example, we wrote this blog titled what is melt flow index (MFI) and why is it important? While you’re in the mood for some melt flow analyzer info why not also check out this piece that explores what is the flow rate ratio? And melt flow testing is also discussed in this guide to flexible packaging.
Once you enquire about the MFR300, our team will reach out promptly to discuss your testing needs and recommend the right configuration. We’ll guide you through the order process and confirm availability. Delivery timelines and support with installation scheduling or shipping coordination.
With the MFR300 we provide full after-sales service and support. Our team can assist with installation, training, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting. Whether you’re testing daily or scaling up production, we’re here to help you maintain uptime and performance.
