Standards
ISO 3034 is an international ISO thickness testing standard that’s used to determine the single sheet thickness of corrugated cardboard.
This ISO standard thickness test is applicable for all types of corrugated cardboard, but it’s commonly used for the type of corrugated fiberboard that’s made for packing cases.
When carrying out thickness testing to ISO 3034 standards you typically use a micrometer.
A micrometer is a precision measurement tool that’s primarily used for thickness testing . Industrial Physics brands TMI and Messmer Büchel are world leaders in precision contact, microprocessor controlled micrometer technology.
Micrometers can be used for continuous or single testing to ISO 3034 standards and statistical analysis. Some micrometers can be controlled remotely through a computer terminal, other micrometers are used in conjunction with other testing equipment.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 3034 testing?
Across the iP thickness testing portfolio of products you’ll find a wide range of calipers, thickness gauges and digital micrometers.
Our digital micrometers and thickness testing gauges will handle most sheet-like substrates and our micrometer film applicators are ideal for research projects to evaluate small variations in film thickness.
All of our micrometer technologies bring together unmatched accuracy with robust mechanical design and a modern, contemporary look.
Our digital micrometers use state of the art measuring technology for unrivaled accuracy and they’re available in a range of specifications to meet international ISO test standards including ISO 3034.
When you need highly accurate thickness testing measurements of the depth, width or length of a material then an Industrial Physics micrometer will deliver fast, consistent
Messmer Büchel Digital Micrometer
The popular 49-56 micrometer gives precise thickness testing measurements to ASTM standards. Whether you are working with paper, plastic and plastic films or tissue paper, nonwovens, textiles and other sheet-like substrates.
It’s the premium machine for the job when your packaging sheet materials must hit international standards, including ASTM, ISO, EDANA and more.
The TMI 49-86 Digital Micrometer
The TMI 49-86 micrometer is another great thickness testing option for thin samples and products made from paper, film, or non-wovens. Its precision, digital linear encoder measuring system has an ultra-clear, easy-to-read digital display.
The standard option comes with a measurement range of 0-0.050 in. (0-1.27 mm). We also make specialty models – available for corrugated, composites and rubber sheet material ASTM thickness testing up to up to 12.7mm thick.
The TMI 49-87 Digital Micrometer
This precision micrometer combines a precision digital linear encoder measuring system with an ultra-clear, easy-to-read digital display.
It’s built for thickness testing of thick materials such as corrugated, paper board, tissue paper, battery separators, plastic sheets and non-wovens to ISO standards.
The robust unit consists of a heavy, solid frame which houses the reflective linear encoder and associated circuitry. It has a measurement range of 0-0.50 in. (0-12.7 mm), a digital readout automatically displays the specimen thickness and you can store and display up to 100 readings.
