Brought to you by TQC Sheen, our paint testing specialist brand, our Adjustable Micrometer Film Applicators are ideal for when you need to research and evaluate small variations applied film thicknesses.
The TQC Sheen Adjustable Micrometer Applicators offer unique flexibility in the world of film thickness application, by providing the option for small, incremental adjustments for gap sizes.
The applicator blade can be adjusted in 10 μm increments by means of 2 micrometer heads, over a gap size from 0 to 8 mm. The micrometric applicator offers the user flexibility to adjust for the optimum gap size for the sample application.
This means that, in other circumstances, you would typically need to use multiple applicators to cover different specific film thicknesses. However, with an adjustable micrometer, you can use the one applicator to extend the measuring capabilities and cover a wider range of wet film thicknesses.

Applicators are made of anodized aluminum, hardened treated steel, with an accuracy of ± 2 µm.
Due to physical reasons, the maximum film thickness applied is not equal to the gap size. The deposited film thickness may vary from 40% to 80% of the gap size. Also note that the dry film thickness will be lower than wet thickness due to solvent or water evaporation.
We have a film applicator for every test – whether you’re working with test charts, panels, or foils. All of our film applicators offer accurate and repeatable results, whatever you need them for. Whether it’s drying testing, thickness testing, or abrasion testing, our film applicators allow you to carry out a number of tests while adhering to a wealth of industry testing standards.
To support your film application project, we also offer a variety of test chart options, and you can search through the full Industrial Physics range of film applicators here.
We’ve been making film applicators for many years and have learned a lot of best practice during this time. We like to share this knowledge with customers and the wider industry.
Across the knowledgebase section of our website, you’ll find blogs that explore all manner of paint testing subjects, including best practice tips for applying films.
