Introducing ISO 2872 – Industrial Physics

ISO 2872 is an international ISO test method for compression testing and stacking tests of complete, filled transport packages.

The International Organization of Standards (ISO) produces a wide range of ISO standards to guide manufacturers, production lines and laboratories when checking the integrity of packaging, products, and materials across many industries.

Compression testing is often referred to as crush testing. Whatever you call it – we make a range of devices and accessories to support your inspections to many different international standards.

What’s involved in the ISO 2872 crush test?

The ISO 2872 compression test recommends the use of a compression tester to measure the resistance to compression of complete, filled transport packages. It also provides a method for carrying out a package stacking test on these packages using the same apparatus.

The ISO 2782 test may be used to assess the strength or protection a package offers to its contents when it is subjected to compressive forces. A test may be performed either as:

  • A single compression test to investigate the effects (deformation, collapse or failure) of compression or stacking.
  • As part of a sequence of tests designed to measure the ability of a package to withstand a distribution system that includes a compression or stacking hazard.

The ISO 2782 compression test may also be used as a package stacking test to investigate performance under particular conditions of loading, for example, when the bottom package in a stack rests on an open-decked pallet.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 2872 compression testing?

Testing Machines Inc. Box Compression Testers
Industrial Physics offers Box Compression Testers for various box sizes. The Bench Mounted Tester is ideal for small to medium boxes, featuring computer control, a precision AC servo drive, and balanced load cells for accuracy. For larger boxes, the Floor Standing Compression Tester provides the same features in a robust, four-column design for precise and even loading.
