Standards
ISO 2884 is an international ISO standard that uses a rotary viscometer in order to determine the viscosity of paints, varnishes and related products.
This ISO viscosity testing standard consists of the following parts, under the general title paints and varnishes – determination of viscosity:
This ISO 2884 viscometer testing approach is particularly useful during the production and thinning process of products with a viscosity of up to 34 pascal seconds.
Viscosity testing during the test and inspection process allows you to choose the right materials for the job – so your surfaces look as good as they’re supposed to, from production to final destination.
Accurate viscosity testing to the ISO 2884 standard gives you confidence that your paints, inks, varnishes and coatings will stay in one place! Over time, deformation or flow can have a disastrous effect on the appearance of products or packaging.
You’ll often find rotary viscometers used in production labs and as part of a solid quality control process. This method of viscosity testing measures the torque needed to turn an object that’s been placed in the sample fluid being tested.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 2884 testing?
Our extensive range of viscosity cups and rotary viscometers help our customers to rigorously check the quality control of their products to ISO standards. They also enable you to improve the consistency and performance of your materials.
TQC Sheen Cone and Plate Viscometer (CP1)
The Cone and Plate Viscometer (CP1) is a standard test for dynamic viscosity measurements. As non-Newtonian fluids exhibit different viscosities relative to the shear rate applied, our rotary viscometer tightly controls it to 10,000S-1 (B.S./ ISO requirements) or to 12,000S-1 (ASTM). These are generally accepted to be representative of paint application via a roller or brush and so reflect ‘real world’ application.
TQC Sheen Digital Rotothinner™
The Rotothinner™ is a two-in-one instrument for viscosity testing. It enables easy, continuous monitoring of the material viscosity during the addition of solvents and thinners to create supply or RFU viscosity.
The flexibility of the Rotothinner™ gives you ultimate control over the viscosity reduction process, whilst also providing highly accurate stability analysis.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about viscosity testing over the decades. Now Industrial Physics is recognized as a brand that likes to bring new, innovative paint testing equipment to market.
We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions about viscosity testing. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects. For example, why not have a look at this blog which delves into how to measure viscosity? Then perhaps you may like to check out our viscosity conversion table and our viscosity calculator.
