Description

The TQC Sheen C&W Salt Spray Cabinet range is designed for delivering the precise environmental test conditions demanded by modern industry. Ideal for quality control and materials testing laboratories, these salt spray systems are used across major sectors, including automotive manufacturing, paints and coatings, chemicals, electronics, aerospace, military, and offshore industries.

Known for their reliability, ease of operation, and robust construction, TQC Sheen C&W cabinets have gained global recognition. They are widely used for testing components and coated panels, offering corrosion performance analysis that meets or exceeds all major national, international, and corporate standards.

Why it matters

Early identification of corrosion failure helps manufacturers reduce costly warranty claims, product recalls and reputational damage linked to premature coating breakdown.

Accelerated salt spray testing compresses years of real-world corrosion exposure into controlled laboratory conditions, supporting faster material approval and product development cycles.

Testing to recognised international standards such as ASTM B117 and ISO 9227 gives quality teams and their customers confidence that corrosion performance data is comparable and reproducible.

Accelerated Corrosion Testing – Built for Performance

TQC Sheen C&W leads the UK market in the design and manufacture of accelerated corrosion and environmental test cabinets. These systems are engineered for accurate simulation of long-term corrosion effects within a controlled, repeatable environment.

ASTM B117 operating envelope

ASTM B117 is a salt spray test used to produce relative corrosion resistance information for specimens of metals and coated metals exposed in a standardized corrosive environment.

All C&W cabinets are designed to meet ASTM B117 operating conditions: chamber temperature 35 degrees C plus/minus 2 degrees C, humidity 95 to 98 percent RH during test, 5 percent plus/minus 1 percent salt concentration, pH 6.5 to 7.2, humidifier temperature 47 to 49 degrees C (matched to air pressure), and fallout collection between 1 and 2 ml per 80 cm horizontal area per hour. Weekly titration and pH checks maintain the operating envelope through the test.

Site preparation and utilities

Each cabinet requires:

  • Power – 220/240 VAC single phase 50 Hz. Current requirement varies by model from 13 A (100 to 750 L cabinets) to 16 A (1000 and 2000 L cabinets). Maximum load 1.4 kW to 4.2 kW.
  • Water – continuous clean supply between 2 and 4 Bar. Distilled or de-ionised water is recommended in hard-water areas.
  • Compressed air – continuous dry, oil-free supply between 1 Bar (average operating setting) and 4 Bar maximum. Air flow requirements vary by model.

Drainage – 1.25 inch (32 mm) push-fit connection to foul water drain, with vertical vent pipe within 1 m of the cabinet. A positive downhill slope to the drain is required to allow venting.

Legionella management and maintenance

C&W cabinets are designed for controlled hygiene management in line with the HSE ACoP L8 approved code of practice on Legionella. Recommended routine maintenance includes monthly chlorination of the humidifier tower and salt reservoir, replacement of the peristaltic pump tubing every 10 to 12 weeks, salt solution filter changes every three months, and spray nozzle inspection every six months. Annual factory service and calibration is offered and recommended to maintain the ASTM B117 operating envelope over the life of the cabinet.
