Introducing GOST 4765-73 – Industrial Physics

GOST 4765 is a GOST testing standard to determine the strength of paints and varnishes using an impact resistant testing method.

This GOST testing method determines the maximum height at which a falling load of a specified mass doesn’t cause visible mechanical damage on the surface of a paint-coated plate.

The GOST series of international technical standards is maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC). This is a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

 Impact resistance testing for paint

The impact resistance test for paint reveals a coating’s ability to withstand mechanical stress and prevent damage upon impact. This evaluation is useful for surfaces exposed to potential impacts or abrasions in real-world scenarios.

There are several impact resistance testing methods including the falling weight test and the Gardner impact test. In these tests, a specified weight or impactor is dropped onto a coated panel, and the extent of damage, such as cracking or chipping, is observed and measured. This evaluation helps manufacturers and quality control teams ensure that the paint coating meets performance standards and maintains its protective integrity in demanding environments.

Industrial Physics impact resistance testers

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your GOST 4765 paint impact resistance testing?

TQC Sheen Impact Test
The TQC Sheen Impact Test will quickly and accurately determine the impact resistivity and flexibility of most coatings. It’s a dual scale impact testing device that will help you to finesse your paint production, surface finishing and powder coating applications.
