ASTM E-4 is an ASTM international standard for the force calibration and verification of various testing machines.
The American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) is one of the most influential standard bodies in existence. Established in 1898, ASTM international exists to develop standardized test methods, specifications, practices, guides, classification, and terminology across a range of subject areas.
The ASTM E-4 testing standard provides procedures for the force calibration and verification of tension or compression static or quasi-static testing machines. However, these practices are not intended to be complete purchase specifications for testing machines.
Testing machines may be verified by one of the three following methods, or combination of them. Each of the ASTM E-4 methods require a specific measurement uncertainty, displaying metrological traceability to The International System of Units (SI).
The ASTM E-4 testing procedures apply to the calibration and verification of the force-measuring systems associated with the testing machine. This includes the force indicators such as a scale, dial, the marked or unmarked recorder chart, and digital display.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ASTM E-4 testing?
Box Compression Testers
Industrial Physics offers box compression testers for various box sizes. The bench mounted tester is ideal for small to medium boxes. It features computer control, a precision AC servo drive, and balanced load cells for accuracy.
For larger boxes, our floor standing tester provides the same features in a robust, four-column design, ensuring precise and even loading.
We have been manufacturing a wide variety of testing machines for over a century, from compression testers to tension testers and universal testing machines. We love making testing machines so much we even have a brand called TMI Büchel!
We like to share the lessons learnt over many decades and share information across the knowledgebase section of our website. For example, why not check out this blog that covers the basics of UTM machine testing? Or perhaps try this one, which focuses on understanding hydraulic compression and tension testing.
