Description

A single-station testing center for flexible film structures

The TMI Büchel SL-25 Hot Tack and Seal Tester is a single-station testing center built for single- or multi-layer flexible film structures. Its main function is to seal film samples and provide data on seal strength, giving you the information you need to confirm the right sealing conditions for your packaging films before they reach production.

On its own, the SL-25 works as a heat sealer, sealing film samples from 1″ to 8″ wide at temperatures, pressures, and dwell times you set. Attach the SL-25 Hot Tack/Seal Test Unit (75-56-01) and testing expands to include Hot Tack, Seal Test, Hot Tack Profile, and Seal Test Profile testing.

Built around GraphMaster Pro software

The SL-25 connects to a PC of your choice by USB and runs GraphMaster Pro, downloaded and updated through the GraphMaster Download Center. GraphMaster Pro supports test profiles based on temperature, dwell time, and pressure, so you can build test conditions that reflect what actually happens on your line.

The SL-25 has no onboard display or touch screen – everything is controlled from the customer’s PC using GraphMaster Pro.

Full control over your test parameters

Test parameters are fully computer-controlled: a temperature set point range of 21-400°C, a seal pressure range of 30-800N (actual pressure depends on jaw area), a dwell time of 0.1-100 seconds, and a peel rate of 1-100mm/sec. A configurable cooling time of 0-6000 seconds gives the seal time to cool before peeling, and you can run groups of up to 100 samples per test series.

Built for consistent, safe operation

Upper and lower sealing temperatures are set independently, so you can run each jaw at its own set point and reproduce the sealing conditions you need. Dual load cells measure the force actually applied to the film, which keeps sealing surface pressure consistent from one sample to the next. Safety guards and switches are fitted as standard.

Accessories, ordered separately

A set of seal jaws is required to run the SL-25 and is ordered separately. The SL-25 uses the same jaws as the SL-10, so jaws already in your lab for an SL-10 will fit the SL-25, and jaws bought for an SL-25 will work on an SL-10.

Quick change seal jaw inserts let you switch sealing patterns quickly between runs. The phenolic seal jaw tray (75-56-07) gives you somewhere safe to store hot jaw inserts as they cool. A footswitch (49-56-02, the same footswitch used with the TMI Büchel micrometer) lets you cycle the machine hands-free. All of these are ordered separately from the instrument.

Site requirements

The SL-25 requires 120/230 VAC power (standard US units are configured for 120 VAC), a clean, dry air supply at 90-120 PSI, and a surface capable of supporting at least 275 lbs (125kg). An ambient temperature of 18-22°C is recommended for optimal performance.

The main unit measures 22.2 x 22.9 x 22.8 in (563 x 583 x 580 mm), width by height by depth. The Hot Tack/Seal Test Unit adds a further 7.3 x 5.9 x 7.0 in (185 x 150 x 177 mm), so allow bench space for both if you’re running hot tack testing.

Standards and compliance

The SL-25 conforms to ASTM F1921 for hot tack testing and ASTM F2029 for making heat seals, with calibration to ASTM E-4.

Features & Benefits

  • No internal PC: connects to a PC of your choice by USB, running GraphMaster Pro software.
  • Full profile control: build test profiles by temperature, dwell time, and pressure.
  • Wide test parameter range: 21-400°C temperature, 30-800N pressure, 0.1-100 second dwell time, 1-100mm/sec peel rate.
  • Configurable cooling time: 0-6000 seconds between sealing and peeling, so samples cool exactly as long as you need.
  • Batch testing: run up to 100 samples per test group.
  • Independent upper and lower sealing temperatures: set each jaw to its own temperature to reproduce the sealing conditions you need.
  • Dual load cells: measure the force actually applied to the film, keeping sealing surface pressure consistent between samples.
  • Safety guards and switches: fitted as standard for safe operation.
  • Jaws shared with the SL-10: the same seal jaws fit both instruments, so a lab running both can move jaws between them.
