Introducing SCAN P33 – Industrial Physics

SCAN P33 is an edgewise crush testing (ECT) standard that was developed to measure the compressive strength of corrugated paper samples using a crush tester.  

What is an edgewise crush resistance test?

Crush testing methods and standards were created to develop a common basis for communication between corrugated manufacturers and their customers. These inspection approaches are typically developed by industry and follow internationally recognized principles.  

As one of the most common ways to test the peak load of materials like paper, board and corrugated cardboard can handle, edgewise crush testing – or edge crush testing (ECT) – is a key factor for any good, corrugated QA process. 

Also known as ECT, this technique is handy for working out the overall strength and durability of any packaging made from corrugated material. The edge crush test determines the cross-direction force needed to crush a sample of corrugated board to the point of failure. 

The SCAN P33 crush testing standard is suitable for a wide variety of corrugated board samples.
