What’s involved in a tearing strength test?

When you need to measure how much resistance your sample material can take before it tears, a tear strength test will deliver the results. The tear test is an effective way of demonstrating if the materials you select for your products will be fit for purpose.  

The tear strength test can be applied to a range of materials including plastic films, paper, rubber or textiles. In essence, the tear test involves taking a sample, securing it between two grips and applying a uniform force in a predetermined direction. You can use the tear test data extracted by observing the deformation to determine the tearing strength.
