Introducing GB T4857-4 – Industrial Physics

GB T4857-4 is part of a Chinese national testing standard used to inspect the compressive strength and protective properties of packages using a compression tester. 

Administered by China’s National Packaging Standardization Technical Committee this standard specifies the compressive strength requirements for the transport and stacking of packages.  

GB T4857-4 is the fourth part of the wider GB T4857 testing standard, which covers everything from compression testing to low air pressure inspections and measuring response to temperature, vibration and humidity exposure. 

GB T4857-4 covers the use of compression testing equipment performance indicators and guides on how to set up test procedures and write test reports. 

Why is compression testing important?

Compression and crush testing are common and essential parts of any corrugated, paper and board QA process. There are various tests designed to illustrate the peak load the sample can handle.
