Technidyne Pulmac Automated Z-Span™ Fiber Strength Tester

Know the strength of your fiber before it becomes a problem on the machine. The Technidyne Pulmac Z-Span™ Tester runs up to 24 wet or dry zero span and short span tests automatically, delivering fiber quality data in about five minutes.

Description

Measure fiber strength before quality slips

The Technidyne Pulmac Automated Z-Span™ Tester tells you whether your fiber is strong enough to run — before you find out the hard way on the paper machine. Load handsheet or strip samples onto the feed tray, and the system automatically runs up to 24 wet and/or dry tests in a single sequence.

Results appear on the touchscreen interface within minutes and export directly to a PC database for trending and record keeping.

Detect process changes before quality declines

Weak fiber means web breaks, lost production time, and downgraded product. The Z-Span™ Tester generates fiber quality numbers sensitive to fiber strength, fiber length, bonding potential, and fiber alignment — the variables that determine whether your sheet holds together on the machine.

Routine testing catches process drift early, so you can adjust before quality drops and production pays the price.

Learn more and get insights

Over the years, we’ve gathered insight into effective fiber strength testing and pulp quality analysis.

We share much of this knowledge in our knowledgebase. For example, if you’re new to pulp evaluation, check out Pulp Evaluation: Application Information. Or, for a deep dive into standard pulp testing methods, see the TAPPI T 275 article.

These resources will help you maximize the Pulmac Z-Span™ Tester’s performance, troubleshoot issues, and understand how fiber strength impacts your production.

Explore Our Wide Portfolio

While you’re exploring fiber quality solutions, why not take a look at the Pulmac MasterScreen™? It’s designed to screen fibers and detect contaminants such as stickies and shives—giving you a complete view of pulp quality before it even reaches the paper machine.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to reach out, our team of experts will be happy to help.

Features & Benefits

  • Runs up to 24 wet or dry zero span and short span tests in a single automated sequence — no operator intervention required.
  • Completes a full fiber strength analysis in about five minutes, fast enough to keep pace with process changes.
  • Detects changes in fiber strength, length, and bonding potential early — before they show up as defects in your finished product.
  • Stores test results automatically on a local flash drive, so your data is captured even if the network goes down.
  • Exports test data to a PC Excel database automatically via serial port, making it easy to trend fiber quality over time.
  • Ships factory-calibrated, so you can install it and start testing the same day.
  • Touchscreen interface with menu-driven controls means your lab team can run it with minimal training.
  • Rugged bench-top construction built to perform in the demanding conditions of a pulp mill lab.
  • Precision clamping surfaces made from superhard, rustproof machine tool material hold measurement consistency over thousands of tests.
  • Fiber quality data you can act on – optimize your process to reduce downgraded pulp and avoid costly production losses.
