Introducing ASTM D774 – Industrial Physics

ASTM D774 is a global ASTM test method that’s used to test the bursting strength of a variety of paper and paper products.

Bursting strength is an effective way to measure the resistance to rupture of lots of paper products. A bust test is a relatively easy and inexpensive process that enables you to recreate real-world applications.

What types of paper are suitable for burst testing?

The ASTM D774 burst test was established to measure the bursting strength of paper and paper products in single or laminated flat sheet form. It’s a burst test for samples that are under 0.6 mm (0.025 in) in thickness, with a bursting strength from between 30 kPa and 1400 kPa (4 psi up to 200 psi).

If you need to carry out burst tests on corrugated boxboard, liner board, or hardboards then ASTM D774 testing may not be appropriate. But there are other types of similar bursting strength tests found within the likes of ISO 2758 and TAPPI 403.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ASTM D774 testing?

Messmer Büchel – Parker Print-Surf (Single Head) 58-06

When you need to measure the surface roughness of anything from fine paper to films and foils, you’ll find all you need wrapped up in the Parker Print surface roughness tester. The data collected from our surface roughness tester shows you how much ink to use and the way it should be applied. This helps you to avoid costly, time-consuming printing problems.

We also make a range of parts and accessories for the Parker Printer Surf, including the porosity heads and roughness heads.
