GOST 15140-78 is a GOST testing standard for inspecting the adhesion properties of paints and varnishes using the lattice notch adhesion testing method.
The GOST series of international technical standards is maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC). This is a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Adhesion is a strongly desired quality between a coating and a substrate, as it allows the coating to fulfill its function of protecting or decorating the substrate. Also referred to as the cross-cut adhesion test, the lattice notch adhesion testing method helps you to determine the resistance of paints and coatings to separation from substrates using a tool to cut a right-angle lattice pattern into the coating, penetrating to the substrate.
A lattice notch adhesion test is typically carried out using a handheld tool that allows you to cut a lattice pattern in the coatings, to the point where the tool meets the substrate. You can then observe the characteristics of the film, to see how well it adheres to the substrate after the cutting process.

The TQC CC2000 Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT is used to test the adhesion of dry coats of paint on their substrate by means of a series of cuts through the coating. Two series of parallel cuts cross angled to each other to obtain a pattern of 25 or 100 similar squares. The ruled area is evaluated by using a table chart after a short treatment with a stiff brush, or adhesive tape for hard substrates.
