Introducing ASTM D4213 – Industrial Physics 

ASTM D4213 is an international ASTM testing method to measure the scrub resistance of paints by abrasion weight loss.  

The American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) is one of the most influential standard bodies in existence. Established in 1898, ASTM international exists to develop standardized test methods, specifications, practices, guides, classification, and terminology across a range of subject areas. 

What is scrub resistance?  

Scrub resistance is also known as wet abrasion resistance or scrubbability. As the name suggests, it’s an accelerated procedure to measure the resistance of paints to erosion caused by scrubbing. Although scrub resistance tests are intended primarily for interior coatings, they are sometimes used with exterior coatings as an additional measure of film performance.
