Rupture testing is used to describe several different types of test procedures, all of which look at ways that a material can be punctured or burst.
One type of rupture testing is often also referred to as puncture resistance testing and tends to look at the point at which a material ruptures from the force of an outside object.
Another type of rupture testing refers to the rupture or burst strength of a package such as a bag of chips, or a bottle of shampoo, or anything which may burst or rupture if too much compressive force is applied. Neither type of testing is limited to consumer goods and can easily be performed on any product or material from a wide variety of industries.
Puncture testing is a way of determining the puncture resistance of materials such as plastic film, fabric, thin rubber membranes and similar samples. It typically applies a penetrating probe at a variety of measured forces, allowing you to record if and when your material is punctured.

Burst testing is a method of finding out the amount of pressure materials or components can take before they are compromised. It’s commonly used for everything from foods and beverages to medical packaging.
When performing this type of test, the product being tested is usually compressed a specific distance and the force is measured, rather than to the point of destruction.
