From TQC Sheen, our specialist testing brand for paint and coating inspection, we can offer a range of robust surface microscopes.
Each surface microscope is made of robust aluminum and come with separate adjustable illumination focus ring, adjustable scale (mm / inch) and a rubber eye cap. Available with 20 x and 60 x magnification.
Ideal for inspecting, tracking, and measuring the smallest of details, such as cracks.
Available models:
Choose 20x (LD6170) for general coating and surface inspection – the widest field of view, ideal for spotting and locating surface features across a larger sample area. Choose 60x (LD6172) for detailed examination of specific features once located – the workhorse magnification for measuring crack widths, pinhole sizes and coating defects. Choose 100x (LD6174) for the most detailed inspection of fine cracks, small pits and pigment-level detail – narrower field of view, higher magnification. Many QC labs keep multiple magnifications in the toolkit and switch based on the inspection step.
The Robust Surface Microscopes are portable inspection microscopes used by coating inspectors, corrosion analysts and QC teams to visually examine and measure fine surface details – cracks, pinholes, scratches, pits, inclusions and other imperfections in paint, inks and coating layers. Each microscope has robust aluminum construction, adjustable illumination focus ring, adjustable measurement scale (mm and inch) and a rubber eye cap. Placed directly on the sample surface, they provide magnified visual inspection at the bench or on-site without needing a benchtop microscope stage.
After a salt spray, cyclic corrosion or Machu test, the microscopes are used to inspect test panels for corrosion creep from the scribe, blister formation, pinhole development and rust breakthrough – all of which contribute to the pass/fail assessment of the coating under test. Combined with the adjustable measurement scale, the microscopes let inspectors record quantitative results (e.g. maximum creep distance from scribe in mm) rather than subjective visual grades – so results are defensible under audit and comparable across operators, shifts and sites. Applications also cover scratch testing after abrasion or scribe evaluation.
Each microscope ships with the aluminum microscope body, adjustable illumination focus ring, adjustable mm/inch measurement scale, rubber eye cap, protective case and manual. Available at 20x (LD6170), 60x (LD6172) and 100x (LD6174) magnifications – specify the magnification when ordering. Every microscope is supplied with a 1 year parts and labour warranty as standard – our Industrial Physics group commitment across all brands. Contact our support team if you need advice on selecting the right magnification for your inspection workflow.
Yes – each microscope includes an adjustable measurement scale reading in both mm and inch. Place the microscope on the surface, focus on the feature to be measured, and read the scale directly in the eyepiece. This is what makes the microscopes suitable for crack-width measurements, pinhole sizing and other quantitative surface QC work – not just qualitative visual inspection. The scale is reticle-based in the bottom lens on the graduated variants (see also the TQC Sheen Robust Graduated Surface Microscope 10x as an alternative lower-magnification option).
