ISO 872 was an international ISO testing method used to determine the ash content of unplasticized cellulose acetate.
The International Organization of Standards (ISO) produce a wide range of ISO standards to guide manufacturers, production lines and laboratories when checking the integrity of packaging, products, and materials across many industries.
The ash that’s measured using the ISO 872 testing method is formed from the inorganic matter that’s present in the product. The ash testing method is intended for cellulose acetate without plasticizers and free of additives, fillers, dyes or other materials which may affect the test.
When plasticizers, additives, fillers or dyes which could affect the test are present, they should be separated by a method agreed between the contracting parties.
To carry out a successful ISO 872 ash content test you’ll need the following testing apparatus:
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 872 ash content testing?
TQC Sheen PosiTector SmartLink
Turn your cell phone or tablet into a virtual PosiTector gauge using our PosiTector SmartLink and free mobile app. The PosiTector SmartLink accepts all PosiTector 6000, RTR-H, and SPG probes and converts easily into a coating thickness gauge or surface profile gauge.
Be sure to check out some more of the ash content testing devices across the IP portfolio.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about ash content testing over the decades. We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects.
