ASTM D3786 is an ASTM international standard method that helps you to measure the bursting strength of textile fabrics using the diaphragm burst test approach.
Burst strength testing will help you to understand how much pressure your materials can take before they fail. You will learn the maximum bursting pressure they will take and where, why, and when your fabrics fail. The burst test is an important check as it can show you areas of your materials that could compromise safety, quality, or performance.
This ASTM test approach is designed to inspect the bursting strength of a range of knitted, nonwoven and woven fabrics used in the textile industry for many uses. ASTM D3786 may also be applicable for stretch woven and woven industrial fabrics such as inflatable restraints.
You’ll need a hydraulic or pneumatic diaphragm bursting tester to perform an ASTM D3786 burst strength test.
Following the diaphragm bursting strength test method you firstly clamp your fabric sample to an expandable diaphragm. The diaphragm is expanded with fluid pressure to the point of specimen rupture. From here you measure the total bursting strength pressure required to rupture the sample and the pressure required to inflate the diaphragm.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ASTM D3786 testing?
We’ve learnt a thing or two about burst strength testing over the decades. Now Industrial Physics is recognized as a brand that likes to bring new, innovative burst tester technology to market.
