Introducing TAPPI T807 – Industrial Physics  

TAPPI T807 is a TAPPI international testing standard that will help you to measure the bursting strength of paperboard and linerboard using a disk shaped diaphragm.  

To perform this TAPPI bursting strength test you must clamp your sample between two platens with circular openings in their centers. You’ll need a burst tester with an expansible diaphragm which can be distended through the lower platen using hydraulic pressure, until the sample ruptures.  

It’s important to carry out an equal number of tests on each side of the sheet as there’s usually a significant difference between the sides. 

If you need the bursting strength of paper with basis weights below 98 g/m2, use TAPPI T 403 ‘Bursting Strength of Paper.’ For corrugated combined boards, see TAPPI T 810 ‘Bursting Strength of Corrugated Board.’
