ISO 527-3 is an international ISO standard that’s used to determine the tensile properties of plastic films that are less than one millimeter thick.
The ISO 527-3 tensile test will reveal various characteristics of the plastic films you are investigating, such such as:
Through the ISO 527-3 tensile testing method you typically test strips or dumbbell samples which can easily be produced using a specimen or film cutter.
The results of ISO plastic strip testing and the strain required to break the sample depends on the specimen shape and the type of specimen gripping used. This is perhaps best achieved using parallel clamping specimen grips with the grip inserts arranged for linear contact between the jaw and the specimen.
Just a little note: the ISO 527-3 method is not suitable for tensile testing of cellular materials or plastics reinforced by textile fibers.
