Introducing ISO 8295 – Industrial Physics

ISO 8295 is an international ISO test method that will reveal the static (μ_s ) and kinetic (μ_k) coefficient of friction values of plastic films and sheeting.

ISO 8295 is an important test for organizations who work in the packaging sector. It’s used to identify the frictional properties of the products they make in order to ensure safety and functionality.

Food sector companies use ISO 8295 testing to inspect the plastic films used to produce items like meat seal wraps or bags. You’ll also find organizations testing to ISO 8295 standards while producing anything from I.V bags in the medical devices sector to sacks for cement in the construction industry.

What’s covered by ISO 8295?

This ISO standard specifies a method for determining the coefficients of starting and sliding friction of plastics film and sheeting when sliding over the same or other substances.

The ISO 8295 test method was devised for non-sticky plastic films and sheeting with a thickness of up to 0.5 mm. Your sample is supported on a friction table with a pulley which produces a relative motion. The ISO 8295 test recreates the action of one piece of film sliding over another at a constant rate of displacement. This causes the desired friction between the two plastic film samples. The force is recorded and the coefficient of friction test results can then be calculated.

This coefficient of friction test is primarily used for quality control but it doesn’t offer a comprehensive assessment of the sample’s machinability.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your 8295 testing?

Coefficient of Friction/Peel Tester 32-76e

Horizontal bed COF testing is the definitive method for measuring the static and dynamic coefficient of friction for a wide range of paper, corrugated, flexible films, rigid plastics and other engineered surfaces.

The 32-76e offers unparalleled performance and flexibility to test across a wide range of standards for both COF testing, peel/adhesion and heat seal applications.

180-degree Peel Accessory

Made by TMI Büchel, our specialist paper and packaging testing brand, our 180-degree Peel Accessory was designed to be used with the 32-76e COF tester.
