Introducing BS 7325 – Industrial Physics

BS 7325 is a global BSI testing method that was developed to determine the compressive strength of paper and board using the short span compression (SCT) test.

The British Standards (BS) are the testing standards produced by the BSI Group which is incorporated under a royal charter, formally designated as the national standards body (NSB) for the UK.

The BS 7325 standard specifies a method for inspecting the compressive strength in the machine and cross directions of paper and board using a short span compression tester. This type of compression test applies to papers and boards used for the manufacture of containers and boxes. It may also be used for laboratory sheets prepared for the testing of pulp.

Why is short span compression testing useful?

Short-span compression testing (SCT) is a cost-efficient, innovative, and modern technique  available for corrugated testing labs. It’s becoming increasingly popular among testers and is taking over from some of the more traditional paper and corrugated crush tests and techniques.

While compression testing is helpful for testing all sorts of materials, from concrete to ceramics, SCT testing is most commonly used to test paper, board, and corrugated materials like cardboard.
