BS 2782-6 is a global BSI method that was developed to test the dimensional properties and thickness of plastic materials through the mechanical scanning of flexible plastic sheet samples.
The British Standards (BS) are the testing standards produced by the BSI Group, which is incorporated under a royal charter, formally designated as the national standards body (NSB) for the UK.
The ISO test methods adopted as British Standards, together with the methods in BS 2782, provide a rationalized collection of methods for testing plastics materials. It includes tests that are applied to molding and extrusion compounds, synthetic resins, reinforced plastics, semi-fabricated products such as sheet, film, rod and tube, and finished articles in the form of moldings and extrusions.
The BS 2782 standard comprises 12 parts that cover the testing of everything from the thermal, electrical, chemical and mechanical properties of plastic through to optical and color properties.
BS 2782 testing also offers guidance on testing glass reinforced plastics, thermoplastics pipes, fittings and valves.
Testing the thickness of plastic sheets can yield some incredibly useful data about its durability and other essential properties. Part six of BS 2782 deals specifically with the dimensional properties of plastics and an effective test can be achieved using a digital micrometer.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your BS 2782-6 plastic sheet testing?
Messmer Büchel Digital Micrometer 49-56
With the Digital Micrometer 49-56 from Messmer Büchel you’ll achieve accurate thickness measurements of a wide range of sheet-like substrates even at low pressures. And the instrument complies with the most demanding of international standards.
A popular choice from our range of easy-to-use digital micrometers, it offers impressive accuracy within 0.001mm (0.00004in.) or 1% of paper thickness, whichever is better.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about plastic testing over the decades. Now Industrial Physics is recognized as a brand that likes to bring new, innovative digital micrometer technology to market.
We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions about plastic thickness testing. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects.
