DIN EN ISO NF21524

Introducing DIN EN ISO NF21524 – Industrial Physics

DIN EN ISO NF21524 is a global testing standard that will help you to determine the fineness of grind of paints and varnishes using a grindometer.

Fineness of grind testing is essential for manufacturers of paints, inks and coatings. It’s also  necessary for many end users who inspect them during their own production process. It’s a simple yet effective way to measure the uniformity of the pigment particles they contain using a grindometer.

Measuring the fineness of grind is important as typically your pigments will need to be ground or milled into fine particles before they are mixed into a liquid form for dispersion. So, you’ll need to know the physical properties of the particles, and the point at which their size exceeds the thickness of the film itself when painted, spread, or sprayed.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your DIN EN ISO NF21524 testing?

TQC Sheen Automated Fineness Of Grind Gauge Scanner
TQC Grindometers are suitable for use with the the state-of-the-art TIDAS system. This automated fineness of grind gauge scanner is supplied by Labman

The system rates the particle dispersion in materials such as paints, lacquers or pigments. It differentiates between air bubbles and true particles and the rating can be customized to the requirements of each customer.

TQC Sheen Grindometers
Our grindometers and fineness of grind gauges are precision instruments to determine particle size and fineness of many materials like paints, pigments, and filler. Most TQC Sheen Grindometers have double grooves with graded slopes graduated in three different parameters: µm (microns), NS (Hegman) and PCU (North).

We’ve learnt a thing or two about fineness of grind testing over the decades. We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions about paint testing. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects.

You could start with this blog – how additives improve and impact paints and coatings. Then you could follow-up with this piece which delves into how to perform a pigment test.
