The TME BT Integra Pack Smart Package Tester is a bench-top, high-resolution package testing instrument designed for leak testing, burst testing, creep testing, and creep-to-failure testing of flexible and rigid packaging. In this video, you’ll see a practical leak detection demonstration using the BT Integra Pack, how the instrument’s automatic and manual test modes work, and how it supports accurate, repeatable package integrity testing across food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and medical device packaging applications.
Package integrity is fundamental to product safety, shelf life, and consumer confidence. A leak in a food or beverage package allows oxygen and microorganisms to enter, accelerating spoilage. A leak in a pharmaceutical blister pack or medical device pouch can compromise sterility and render the contents unsafe. Detecting leaks before products reach distribution – or consumers – is therefore a non-negotiable part of any quality control process for packaging manufacturers and fillers.
The BT Integra Pack uses a pressure-based approach to leak detection. The package is connected to the instrument, pressurised to a defined test pressure, and then isolated from the pressure source. The instrument monitors any decay in pressure during the test period. A leak in the package causes pressure to fall at a rate that reflects the size of the leak: a small defect produces a slow decay; a gross leak produces a rapid drop. The instrument’s high resolution – 0.001 psig for leak testing – allows it to detect very small leaks that visual inspection or water immersion tests would miss.
The automatic test mode removes the need for the operator to configure test parameters. The instrument senses the package volume during prefill and sets appropriate test conditions automatically, making it straightforward for operators on a busy production line. The manual mode gives R&D teams and validation engineers full control over every test parameter, supporting method development, process validation, and the testing of unusual or specialised packaging formats.
