Introducing TAPPI T 549 – Industrial Physics  

TAPPI T 549 is a TAPPI international standard that will help you to measure the coefficient of static and kinetic friction of uncoated writing and printing paper using the horizontal plane friction method.  

Coefficient of friction testing shows you what happens when two items rub against each other. As well as being a testing option for paper products, it’s also used to determine the coefficient of friction (COF) value of anything from film covered corrugated products to household items such as ceramic tiles. 

Why is coefficient of friction (CoF) testing useful? 

Coefficient of friction testing is an essential part of the quality control process when it comes to the packaging sector. This is mainly due to the fact that it shows how your coated corrugated or paperboard sample material will stand up to the trials of shipping, handling and sales.
