Introducing SCAN P42 – Industrial Physics

SCAN P42 is a crush testing standard that was developed to measure the compressive strength of corrugated paper samples using a crush tester.  

Compressive testing is a modern and cost-effective method of testing for corrugated paper research and development. Compression and crush testing are common and essential parts of any corrugated, paper and board QA process.  

Crush testing methods and recommendations were created to develop a common basis for communication between corrugated manufacturers and their customers. The various tests are designed to illustrate the peak load the sample can handle. Crush testing methods are typically developed by industry and follow internationally recognized principles. 

The SCAN P42 standard is suitable for a wide variety of corrugated board testing. 

What is corrugated crush testing? 

The crush test resistance of corrugated board is the maximum compressive force that a test piece will sustain before being crushed. To carry out a compression test you’ll need to stand your sample on one edge and apply force to the opposite edge under specified conditions.
