Introducing NF T 30-046 – Industrial Physics

NF T 30-046 is a national French testing standard that was developed to determine the fineness of grind properties of paints using a grindometer.  

The Norme Française (NF) testing standards are guidelines and requirements developed by AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation), which is the French standardization organization. The NF testing standards are designed to ensure the quality, safety, and performance of materials and products in many different industries. 

Why is fineness of grind testing important?

Fineness of grind testing is essential for paint manufacturers. It’s also relied upon by many end users who inspect the content of their paints during their own production process. It’s a simple yet effective way to measure the uniformity of the pigment particles they contain using a grindometer. 

Typically, your paints will need to be ground or milled into fine particles before they are mixed into a liquid form for dispersion. This is why fineness of grind testing is important. It helps you to evaluate the physical properties of the paint particles and the point at which their size exceeds the thickness of the film itself when painted, spread, or sprayed.
