ISO 8791-3 is an international ISO testing standard that uses the Sheffield roughness testing method to measure the roughness of paper and paperboard.
The Sheffield roughness test is an airflow smoothness test that responds to surface imperfections or undulations in your paper samples.
Surface roughness testing using the ISO 8791-3 test is important as it can guide the choice of paper and paperboard you use. The smoothness of your paper materials will affect their printability. Additionally, paper roughness affects properties such as the coefficient of friction, gloss, and coating absorption.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 8791-3 roughness testing?
Technidyne PROFILE/Plus® Roughness Sheffield with Porosity
The Profile/Plus Roughness Sheffield with Porosity accurately and automatically measures surface roughness of paper and air permeance to industry standard methods. The high-resolution flow meter of this Profile Plus device improves measurement accuracy. This reduces process variability, enabling tighter control specifications. With paper roughness testing you reduce customer complaints, minimize product returns and generate higher profits.
The PROFILE/Plus® Roughness and Porosity
For high-quality printing with uniform ink coverage, you need a uniform paper surface. This efficient, automated paper roughness and porosity measurement device will make sure you achieve this.
It’s efficient and accurate, with an average seven-second testing process. A versatile machine – the only standalone roughness tester that offers you built-in paper feed and your choice of porosity and two-sided roughness measurement simultaneously. This ISO and TAPPI compliant device is configurable and can be equipped to measure either Bendtsen or Sheffield roughness and a variety of porosity reporting units.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about roughness testing over the decades. Now Industrial Physics is recognized as a brand that likes to bring reliable roughness testers to market.
