Introducing ISO 8502-9 – Industrial Physics

ISO 8502-9 is an international ISO standard that will help you to prepare steel substrates before you apply paints, inks and other coatings.  

Part nine of this ISO standard relates to assessing a steel surface’s cleanliness with a conductometric determination of water-soluble salts, before or after surface preparation. 

ISO 8502-9 assesses contaminants that form an electrolyte (ions) when in contact with water. One thing to point out is that the individual surface densities of the salt composition – such as chlorides, sulfates or sodium – can’t be determined with this method.  

There are several parts to ISO 8502. For example, to learn about how this ISO standard suggests you should extract soluble contaminants for analysis using the Bresle test method.
