ISO 3310-3

Introducing ISO 3310-3 - Industrial Physics

ISO 3310-3 is an international ISO standard that’s used to govern the technical and testing requirements of test sieves made from electroformed sheets. These test sieves are used for fine particulate material testing.

The accuracy of test sieving depends on the dimensional accuracy of the sieve’s openings - or apertures. In order for organizations to carry out test sieving uniformly, an ISO standard is required to determine the allowed size of openings.

Test sieves made from electroformed sheets must be handled with care as the fine apertures are invisible to the naked eye.

Within ISO 3310-3 you’ll find guidance on such matters as: the required arrangement of the apertures and the size they should be; how to clean a test sieve before and after use; and the technical requirements and corresponding test methods.

What does ISO 3310-3 testing involve?

There are two main tests within the ISO 3310-3 standard approach.

ISO 3310-3 - test one

The first test for this ISO standard is a general examination.

You can view the sieve against a uniformly illuminated background. To carry out this ISO test you turn the sieve slowly around an axis parallel to the aperture rows; this will enable you to detect unequal apertures. If you spot them, the sieve is unacceptable.

ISO 3310-3 - test two

So, your test sieve has passed test one…congratulations! Now it’s time to examine the aperture size. Following the ISO 3310-3 standard you check the apertures in nine measurement fields and each field will measure at least five apertures.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 3310-3 testing?

Stainless steel test sieves

TQC Sheen, our specialist paint inspection brand, makes a number of test sieves for fine particulate material testing. They’re ideal for fractioning, separation and particle size determination.

Our test sieves are compliant with ISO 3310-3 and are equally suitable for dry sieving, wet sieving and manual sieving. All of our test sieves are laser engraved which provides a clear and accurate labeling with full traceability.

We manufacture a variety of sizes and can even custom build test sieves to suit your individual needs.
