ISO 2360 is an international ISO standard used to test non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic, electrically conductive base metals.
It’s a coating thickness testing measurement and it’s sometimes referred to as the amplitude-sensitive eddy-current method.
Through the ISO 2360 method the term ‘coating’ is used to describe materials including paints and varnishes, electroplated coatings, enamel coatings, plastic coatings, claddings and powder coatings.
This ISO approach is particularly useful for coating thickness testing of most oxide coatings produced by anodizing. However, it’s not applicable to all conversion coatings – some are too thin for ISO 2360 testing.
You can use this method for thickness testing of coatings on magnetic base metals, but it’s not really recommended. If this is your goal, you’re better off adopting the magnetic method that’s specified in ISO 2178.
In the case of very thick coatings over one millimeter, the amplitude-sensitive eddy-current coating thickness testing method of ISO 2360 is suitable.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 2360 coating thickness testing?

A wide range of high-performance probes designed for use with the PosiTector 6000 coating thickness gauge. Suitable for both ferrous and non-ferrous substrates, including specialized probes for duplex coatings and extreme conditions.
Set of ferrous and non-ferrous zero plates for accurate calibration of DeFelsko coating thickness probes. Enables reliable measurement across a wide range of materials.
Non-ferrous zero plate designed for verifying and calibrating DeFelsko coating thickness probes. Ensures accurate baseline readings on non-magnetic substrates.
The TQC Sheen PosiTector 6000 Coating Thickness Gauge is a rugged, weatherproof gauge built for paints and coatings QC laboratories and industrial coating applicators who need reliable readings in busy production environments or harsh field conditions. Using magnetic and eddy current principles, it automatically recognizes ferrous substrates (steel, cast iron) and non-ferrous substrates (aluminum, copper) and measures coating thickness accordingly - no manual substrate selection required. Choose the Standard model for everyday thickness verification, or the Advanced model for compliance-mode measurement, batch data management and wireless connectivity.
