ISO 1924

Introducing ISO 1924 - Industrial Physics

ISO 1924 is a set of international ISO standard procedures that are designed to determine the tensile strength, strain at break and tensile energy absorption of paper and board. 

This ISO tensile test is applicable to most papers and boards. Even those that have a high strain at break…assuming the results are within the capacity of the tensile testing machine. It also works with the components of corrugated board - but not the corrugated board final product itself. 

What is tensile testing? 

Tensile strength testing involves pulling a sample apart until it fails and then measuring the amount of effort involved. The measured figure is known as the tensile strength of the sample. It’s a broad term that refers to all types of force and materials strength testing applications that follow this process. 

Performing tensile testing of your paper and board samples to ISO 1924 standards is an important check. Accurate paper and board tensile testing enables you to understand the integrity of your materials and how they will perform in the real world.  

To determine the tensile properties of your materials - including the tensile strength, strain at break and tensile energy absorption, you’ll need a robust and accurate tensile tester.  

Another helpful aspect of ISO 1924 testing is that it specifies equations for calculating the tensile index, the tensile energy absorption index and the modulus of elasticity of your samples.
