Introducing ISO 1769- Industrial Physics

ISO 1769 is an ISO international testing system for the color coding of one-mark pipettes and graduated pipettes.

This ISO standard is designed to identify the nominal capacities and units of subdivision of these pipettes.

Why is pipette coding helpful?

Volumetric, one-mark graduated and calibrated pipettes are used for the extremely precise handling of liquid volumes from 0.5mL to 50mL during titrations and production of standard solutions.

Within the ISO 1769 documents you’ll find tables of color code bands for the various different capacities and the method of marking is specified. Suitable requirements and test methods for the durability of each color are intended to be considered at a later date.

This ISO pipette color coding standard was established so that the existing pipette coding systems could be harmonized. It was limited to the essential requirements so that its introduction could be helpful as rapidly as possible. In essence it was to ensure that all manufacturers of pipettes were using the same color codes to avoid confusion.

It’s understood that variations in the enamels used and in the methods of application appropriate for pipettes made from different types of glass inevitably result in minor variations of color.

The ISO 1769 pipette color coding system

So, how does the ISO 1769 standard recommend that the color coding should be applied? The answer is in the form of color bands, extending at least 150 degrees around the circumference of the pipette. These bands should be situated no more than 70mm from the top of the pipette and no less than 20mm above the nearest graduation line.

So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ISO 1769 pipette testing?

TQC Sheen Bresle Kit – Chloride Test Kit
When you’re preparing to coat a blast-cleaned surface and need to first assess the level of soluble salts – look no further than the TQC Sheen bresle kit and chloride test kit. It’s perfect for companies that work within marine coatings, protective coatings and pipeline coatings. It will help you to detect the presence of soluble salts expressed in milligrams per square meter.
