Introducing ISO 1183-1 – Industrial Physics 

ISO 1183-1 is an international ISO standard that will help you to determine the density of non-cellular plastics.  

Part one of this ISO 1183 standard proposes three plastic density testing approaches. It’s suitable for determining the density of non-cellular plastics in the form of void-free molded or extruded objects. It’s also ideal for testing powders, flakes and granules. 

Density testing is frequently used to follow variations in physical structure or composition of plastic materials. Density testing can also be useful in assessing the uniformity of samples or specimens.  

When you need to carry out a reliable and accurate plastic density test to ISO 1183-1 standards, it’s a good idea to invest in a digital densimeter.  

ISO 1183-1 plastic density testing methods  

Part one of this ISO 1183 method covers the following three plastic density testing methods: 

  • Immersion method: this plastic density test is for solid plastics (except for powders) in void-free form. 
  • Liquid pycnometer method: a plastic density test for particles, powders, flakes, granules or small pieces of finished parts. 
  • Titration method: plastic density testing for plastics in any void-free form.
