GOST 6806 is a GOST state testing standard that helps you to determine the bending strength of films.
The mechanical properties of coatings impact upon their performance. The coating on substrates is subjected to several types of mechanical and physical stresses during a lifetime, including bending and deforming forces. Over time, these stresses can result in film damage.
The GOST series of international technical standards is maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC). This is a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Bending resistance is a characteristic associated with the rigidity of a material. When you measure it, you learn about the modulus of elasticity of the material’s stiffness.
Flexibility is the ability of a coating to bend, or flex, without getting cracked or undergoing other failures – its resistance against damage when the substrate and coating are deformed. Flexibility is a material property that is described by flexural modulus, or bending modulus, of elasticity. Flexural modulus denotes the ability of coating material to bend.
Flexural modulus is called “modulus of elasticity in bending,” but also known by the modulus of elasticity, elastic modulus, or simply modulus.
If you make coatings and inks, or simply test them during a production process, then bending strength testing is essential. You can achieve highly accurate results using a bend tester.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your GOST 6806 bending strength testing?
TQC Sheen Cylindrical Mandrel Bend Test including Mandrel Set
The TQC Sheen Cylindrical Mandrel Bend Tester helps you to understand the elasticity, adhesion and elongation properties of paint film that’s applied to sheet metal surfaces.
TQC Sheen is our paint testing specialist brand and the cylindrical bend test has been developed in accordance with international testing standards including GOST 6806.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about testing inks and coatings over the decades. We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions about paint testing. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects.
You could start with this blog – how additives improve and impact paints and coatings. Then you could follow-up with this piece which delves into how to perform a pigment test.
