Standards
DIN 53104 is a global DIN standard for testing paper and board to determine the substance of the plies and work out the grammage of the sample.
Basis weight, substance and ream weight are all terms the paper industry has used in the past to define the mass per unit area of paper and board products. Today the most commonly used term is ‘grammage’ and is most often expressed as grams/meter².
Paper grammage testing gives you a complete grammage profile, providing key information about the operation of the paper machine. It gives you better, more stable production. And grammage testing allows you to more easily verify and calibrate on-line sensors, saving time and money.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your DIN 53104 grammage testing?
Technidyne PROFILE/Plus® Grammage
The PROFILE/Plus® Grammage follows the gravimetric method of paper grammage testing in accordance with industry standards including DIN 53104.
Brought to you by Technidyne, our specialist optical, surface, and physical property testing brand, the PROFILE/Plus® Grammage gives you automated grammage measurement of paper and board.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about paint grammage testing over the decades. Now Industrial Physics is recognized as a brand that likes to bring grammage testers to market.
We like to share our knowledge and we’re here to help you to answer your questions about grammage measurement. Across the knowledgebase section of our website we publish lots of blogs on related subjects.
Perhaps you’d like to read a couple of blogs we’ve published? First up, there’s this blog on the key quality standards for corrugated cardboard. Alternatively, this whitepaper paper outlines different types of sample preparation for paper testing.
