ASTM F1927 is a global ASTM test method that enables you to determine the oxygen gas transmission, permeability and permeance rate of barrier materials using the latest eMetric™ sensor technology .
Measuring the oxygen gas transmission rate (O2GTR) at controled relative humidity and temperature is an important check to see if a package’s barrier materials are fit for purpose. Additional tests are recommended but it’s an essential part of the process.
ASTM F1927 oxygen gas transmission rate testing is a type of permeability test and can be used to test film, sheeting, laminates, co-extrusions, or plastic-coated papers or fabrics.
The ASTM F1927 test method covers a procedure to determine the transmission rate of oxygen gas, at steady-state, at a given temperature and %RH level.
This oxygen gas rate testing method extends the common practice dealing with zero humidity or, at best, an assumed humidity. Humidity plays an important role in the oxygen gas transmission rate (O2GTR) of many materials.
The ASTM F1927 test method determines the oxygen gas transmission rate (O2GTR), the permeance of the film to oxygen gas (PO2), the permeation coefficient of the film to its thickness (P”O2), and oxygen permeability coefficient (PʹO2) in the case of homogeneous materials at given temperature and %RH level(s).
