ASTM D3574 is a global ASTM international standard method for testing flexible cellular urethane and polyurethane foams.
This widely accepted ASTM standard can be used to inspect slab, bonded and molded urethane foams with a compression tester.
The ASTM D3574 standard is helpful for companies that make a wide range of products including furniture, car seats, bedding, foam products and materials.
The ASTM D3574 standard recommends several test procedures to determine the compression, deflection, tear and tensile characteristics of flexible cellular materials. Here is an overview of some of the more popular approaches.
The IFD / ILD test of this ASTM test is the most common compression test approach for the standard. It will help you to understand and measure the force necessary to produce 25% and 65% deflections in your foam products.
This ASTM D3574 approach determines the effects of a tensile force applied to your foam sample. During the process measurements are made for tensile stress, tensile strength, and ultimate elongation.
This ASTM D3574 approach is essentially a tear test that determines the tear propagation resistance of your foam samples.
So, how can Industrial Physics improve your ASTM D3574 testing?
Made by United Testing Machines - our specialist UTM and hardness testing device is specifically designed for testing samples to many international foam compression standards, including ASTM D3574. Our robust and reliable compression tester is rated to test up to 5kN.
