Introducing ASTM D3450 – Industrial Physics
ASTM D3450 is a global ASTM standard scrub test method for measuring the washability properties of interior architectural coatings.
Over time, interior architectural paints become discolored by dirt and other soilant materials. This ASTM washability testing method shows you how easy and how effectively you can remove a specific soilant from the dried film of an interior coating by scrubbing.
Coatings that can be scrubbed clean with the least film erosion last longer. So a washability test is a useful step to take before investing in interior architectural coatings.
We’ll give you cleaner washability testing
Semi-gloss washability testing normally only needs the non-abrasive type cleaner for good results, whereas flat paints may require an abrasive alternative. Both are acceptable options with the ASTM D3450 test method.
Just two more things to point out: the results you get from ASTM D3450 scrub testing don’t necessarily correlate with all types of soilants; plus ASTM D3450 is limited to coatings having a CIE-Y reflectance of 60% or more, as measured in accordance with ASTM E1347.
