Introducing AS/NZ 1301.4SO RP – Industrial Physics

AS/NZ 1301.4SO RP is a combined Australian and New Zealand inspection standard that was developed to determine the compressive strength of paper and board using the short span compression (SCT) test. 

The Standards New Zealand and Standards Australia inspection bodies work together to develop harmonized joint standards under the title ‘AS/NZS’ that include AS/NZ 1301.4SO RP.

Why is short span compression testing useful?

Short-span compression testing (SCT) is a cost-efficient, innovative, and modern technique available for corrugated testing labs. It’s becoming increasingly popular among testers and is taking over from some of the more traditional paper and corrugated crush tests and techniques.  

While compression testing is helpful for testing all sorts of materials, from concrete to ceramics, SCT testing is most commonly used to test paper, board, and corrugated materials like cardboard.
