The TQC Sheen Wet Film Measuring Comb (LD2030) is a manual notch gauge used to read wet film thickness immediately after a paint or coating has been applied. The operator presses the gauge into the wet film – the deepest tooth that touches wet paint indicates the film thickness. Four sides carry 30 notch steps covering 25 to 2000 μm, with rotation between ranges built into the design. Weather-resistant aluminum construction, pocket-sized at 82 x 55 mm, no battery, no software, no calibration downtime.
The comb is used by paint and coatings applicators, coatings inspectors, industrial-finishing QC teams, marine and protective-coatings inspectors, and paint manufacturers for thickness testing at the point of application – the earliest moment a coating can be checked, before flash-off or cure.

The comb is designed to be used in accordance with GOST R 51688 (the GOST wet film thickness test method) and ISO 2808 (paints and varnishes, determination of film thickness – current edition ISO 2808:2019). Both cover the notch-gauge method the comb uses. If your spec sheet lists a different standard, ask your specialist – most national wet-film-thickness standards run the same method with the same tolerances.
Immediately after paint is applied – and before flash-off, cure or any thickening from solvent loss – press the comb into the wet film at 90 degrees to the substrate. The teeth on each side are graduated in μm. The reading is the highest-numbered tooth that shows a paint mark at the edge (the deepest tooth that just touched wet paint). Rotate the comb to the side that best matches the expected film thickness. For a 100 μm target coating use Side 1 (25-150 μm range). Wipe clean with a solvent-appropriate wipe between readings.
The aluminum Wet Film Measuring Comb (LD2030) covers 25-2000 μm in 30 steps across 4 sides and is a wipe-and-reuse tool built to last across shifts and years. The Plastic Wet Film Comb covers 25-900 μm on a plastic tag intended as a disposable single-use gauge – especially useful when the comb needs to be filed with the QC record as evidence for an ISO or customer audit, or when solvent-contaminated combs are being scrapped rather than cleaned. Pick the aluminum reusable comb for repeated shift-work; pick the plastic disposable comb when the comb itself becomes the QC record.
Yes – individual calibration certification against traceable references is available on request at order time. In service, the aluminum notch teeth are dimensionally stable under normal use (wipe cleaning, occasional solvent contact), and the comb does not drift the way a battery-powered gauge can. Re-certification is not usually needed unless the comb has been physically damaged or has visible wear on the deepest teeth from heavy shift use.
