Torus Z544 Manual Dome Depth Gauge

Brought to you by Torus, our specialist measurement, automation, and metrology brand, the Z544 Manual Dome Depth Gauge accurately measures a can’s dome depth.

Through a simple change of rings (included with the gauge), the Z544 is designed to measure the depth of a variety of can diameters, including the bottom of beverage, 2-piece food and aerosol cans.

Why is measuring a can’s bottom depth important?

An accurately measured dome is essential to ensure the integrity of a beverage can, to distribute pressure. It’s crucial for canned beverages like soda and beer, which contain dissolved carbon dioxide gas that create internal pressure.

The concave design of the dome resists outward force, preventing the can from permanently deforming, which is particularly problematic in hot conditions. In order for the dome to do its important job, you need to ensure the can’s bottom depth is uniformly accurate. That’s where the Torus Z544 comes in!

Detailed dome depth gauge analysis

The Torus Z544 is highly accurate and so easy to use. It offers you consistent dome depth measurements with a resolution of 0.01 mm and an impressive repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) of 0.030 mm.

Our Manual Dome Depth Gauge measures the dome depth perpendicular to the centerline of the vertical axis of your cans. You can set a tolerance conformance range so that the measurements are marked as a ‘pass’ or ‘fail.’

Meticulous Mitutoyo metrology – Dial Test Indicator

Our can bottom depth gauge comes equipped with a digimatic Mitutoyo dial test indicator (DTI). The DTI is centrally mounted, making it easy for you to measure the deepest position of the can’s dome.

Simple, certificated calibration for dome depth gauge

Making sure that your bottom depth gauge is reliably accurate is a simple, stress-free process. You can calibrate it manually, as often as you like, using an optional qualification master if requested.
